The Goodies:

130d
The above necklace is definitely my favorite item in this month’s crate. I have been seeing these fake potions around and have been dying to receive one of my own. Not only is it adorable but the quality and attention to detail is amazing. The only problem I have with this item is the fact that it came on a leather cord which I am not really a fan of. I will probably end up switching it out for a gold chain.

130i
If you have been following my bookstagram or blog for a while, than you are well aware of my slight candle obsession. So it should be no surprise that my next favorite item is the above candle inspired by A Crown of Wishes. I am actually burning this bad boy as I am typing this and the scent smells amazing. The notes are sandalwood, orange blossom and masala chai.

130c
If there is one item I absolutely love receiving in subscription boxes, a magnetic bookmark is definitely it. The above item was inspired by A Court of Wings and Ruin and features one of my favorite quotes. The quality on this product is incredible. The paper is nice and thick with a subtle gloss to it.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I rarely use tote bags than I would be all over this item. The artwork is gorgeous and the colors are just as beautiful. I am considering making this into a pillow just so I can get some use out of it.

I will admit, I used to hate getting pins and patches in subscription boxes. I just never knew what to do with them. Ever since I purchased a denim jacket though, my opinion on the two changed forever. This patch is even more beautiful in person. The colors are bright and just seem to pop. I will definitely be adding this to my jacket.

130e
The above notepad is everything I didn’t know I needed and more. The words on the top say, “May the list be ever in your favor”. Which in my opinion is awesome. I am personally an avid list maker. I make lists for anything and everything so you can bet that I will be getting some use out of this notepad.

These vinyl stickers are probably the only miss for me in this months box. They are inspired by Red Rising–a series I have not read. So it’s not a complete shocker that these aren’t my favorite. The simplistic style just isn’t my thing either, but hey, you cant win them all!

As for the book:

Furyborn, by: Claire Legrand

Furyborn is the first book in a the Empirium Trilogy. It follows two queens both centuries apart, and both have the power to save their world or doom it. One is a Sun Queen and one is Blood Queen. I can already imagine this book is going to be a fast paced whirlwind of an adventure. There is also said to be a seven elemental trials that could end in death, and I am SO here for it.

Overall, the May Unicorn Crate was one of the best ones I received as a rep. Pretty much every item was a hit with the exception of the Red Rising vinyl stickers. Anyway, my rep period ends at the end of this month (June). You can still use my rep code READEN10 up until the 30. The June box is currently sold out but you can purchase the July ‘Magic Systems’ crate now.

The theme for June is Potions and Poisons.

I hope you enjoyed reading this month’s unboxing!

Until next time,

The Goodies:

  • Note from author & signed bookplate
  • Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman
  • Thor’s Hammer Keychain by Techplus Gifts
  • Exclusive 2oz Shield-Maiden of Rohan candle by Half Oak Candles

  • Unicorn Bookplates by Torin Judd
  • Celtic Shield button pin by Arkadiy

I think my favorite part of getting Unicorn Crate each month is getting a unicorn themed item along with everything else. These unicorn book plates are certainly no exception. If you don’t know already, a bookplate is basically a sticker you put your name on that you can stick inside the first page of your book. This way, whenever you lend a copy out, you can be sure to get it back. Fun fact: the above unicorn illustration was actually designed by Naomi’s mom! (Naomi is the person behind this amazing subscription service)

This 2oz Shield-Maiden of Rohan candle was inspired by Eowyn in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. It has a musky, earthy scent to it. I couldn’t tell you the exact notes considering they weren’t written on the label nor were they on the spoiler card. With that said, while I do enjoy this scent, I much prefer the candle we got last month.

111c

The above lip balm is definitely my favorite item right next to the book plates. It’s inspiration comes from Rick Riordan’s Magnus Chase. The flavors in it are blackberry, honey and vanilla, and when I put this bad boy on my lips you can trust that they felt as smooth as a baby’s bottom.

111a

Considering I literally know nothing about Thor aside from the fact that he carries around a hammer, I wasn’t too excited when I pulled out this key chain. The overall quality is amazing, it’s super durable, but just not for me.

111e

I love a good art print but when I pulled this out I have to be honest, I had no idea what the heck it was. I mean, I knew it was a map, but of what I didn’t know. So, after doing to research I found out that this is actually a map of Yggdrasil which is an immense mythical tree that connects the nine worlds in Norse cosmology. That brings us to our last two items–the books.

As for the books:

Beyond A Darkened Shore, by: Jessica Leake
and
Norse Mythology, by: Neil Gaiman

That’s right you read correctly, Unicorn Crate included not one but two books this month! To be honest, I’m not sure what either is really about. I know Beyond the darkened Shore has female vikings but other than that I’m at a loss. Norse Mythology on the other hand is basically classic Norse tales but with a modern take. From what I’ve heard, Thor makes a lot of appearances too.

Overall, the April Unicorn Crate wasn’t my favorite. There were some pretty good items but I think the main thing with this box was the two books. if you’re like me and aren’t really into Vikings and such, then maybe this box wasn’t a complete hit.  Anyway, my rep period was extended one more month so I cannot wait to see what May has in store.

The theme for May is Tournaments and Trials.

I hope you enjoyed reading this month’s unboxing!
